In a world where humans can bend the four elements, water, earth, fire, and air, the ruthless Fire Nation has engaged the rest of the world in a war that has lasted one hundred years. The world's only hope is the Avatar, the only one who can master all four elements. When the Avatar returns one hundred years later, a young Airbender named Aang, it's up to him to defeat the Fire Nation, and bring balance to the world.
When the hostile Fire Nation threatens to enslave the Water, Earth, and Air Nations, a reluctant and irresponsible boy must face his destiny as the Avatar, the Chosen One who can restore the world order. This new animated series centers on twelve-year-old Aang, who must forgo his selfish wandering to learn to master his latent powers over the four elements. Only then can he conquer the Firebenders, the evil nation that threatens the world.
What can I say about this classic? If any adult still has any doubts about watching this so called &#39;kids cartoon from Nickelodeon&#39; then I will re-iterate: This is the greatest TV series of all time. You may debate the &#39;all time&#39; praise, but know that the series not only revived a network, but a whole genre and style all by its own!<br/><br/>I can go into all the outstanding performances, animation, designs and writing but I will only talk about what resonated with me the most from this show: Zuko. This is one of the most well written characters of all time and his character arc is BY FAR the best out of any I have ever seen! (And I watched Homeland, Deadwood and The Wire)<br/><br/>The sequel series &#39;The Legend of Korra&#39; is also a true masterpiece and well worth a look.
When Avatar first came on air, I didn&#39;t know what to think about it. I wasn&#39;t very interested so I didn&#39;t watch it, but years later I started to watch it and it started off slow, but it eventually picked up and became an epic story! I cannot believe how incredible the story telling became around chapter 3, it was almost like a …book! I am pretty disappointed in those people who rated it a 1, I think they&#39;re over-critical and not even watching the series, I mean it&#39;s a cartoon so if you don&#39;t like cartoons don&#39;t watch it, but I highly recommend watching this one, It&#39;s one that I honestly think I can watch again and again because of it&#39;s creativity and epic plots.<br/><br/>Most people claim that &quot;Oh it&#39;s ripping off anime!&quot; But you know what? This show never claimed to be a Japanese Anime, nor does it take place in Japan, it may have Japanese elements, but isn&#39;t an American show allowed to use some NON-American elements? At least they made them creative because they&#39;re not trying to copy tacky Japanese crap, they use all of Asia and then some, AND they did a lot of research to do it! My only complaint is that everyone&#39;s dressed to their countries colors.. don&#39;t you think that is a little too obvious? Well anyways, I give it a 10 out of 10.
